CPQLTDStandards & Credentials

1 The scope rule

A coach offers only what can be justified by education, competence, the agreement and local law. Psychological or behavioural knowledge does not turn the coach into a physician, therapist or separately regulated practitioner.

2 Referral indicators

Imminent risk to self or others.

Acute or persistent psychological symptoms that disrupt daily functioning.

A clear disturbance in reality-testing or thinking.

Harmful dependence on a substance or behaviour.

Trauma, violence or abuse requiring specialist intervention.

Physical symptoms or medication queries requiring a physician.

Legal, investment or specialist therapeutic matters beyond competence.

4 Emergencies and local law

CPQLTD does not impose a single global disclosure rule because legal duties differ by country. The practitioner must understand the rules where the service is delivered, explain the limits of confidentiality in advance, and seek appropriate professional/legal advice where safety conflicts with confidentiality.
