1 Scope and purpose
The standard applies to holders of and applicants for the CPQLTD-T credential, to CPQLTD trainers, assessors and supervisors, and to programmes that declare their adherence to it. Its purpose is to protect the client, to unify a minimum quality threshold, and to make competencies observable and assessable.
2 Core principles
Client autonomy and the right to choose.
Non-maleficence and working within one’s competence.
Clarity of the agreement, confidentiality and boundaries.
Honesty about identity, qualifications and outcomes.
Accountability, self-reflection and professional supervision.
Cultural respect and non-discrimination.
Reliance on appropriate evidence without turning models into therapeutic promises.
3 The eight CPQLTD competencies
C01 Ethics and scope · C02 Professional mindset and reflective practice · C03 Contracting and client autonomy · C04 Presence, listening and communication · C05 Enquiry and awareness · C06 Goals, action and accountability · C07 Context, inclusion and systems awareness · C08 Evidence, development and professional growth. The observable behaviours are detailed in the competency model (CPQLTD-COMP-2026-v1.1).
4 Practice and documentation
The practitioner maintains a clear agreement and appropriate practice log, collects the minimum necessary client data, secures files, and obtains explicit consent to record sessions or use a case in education. Client stories or quotations are not used in marketing without documentable permission.
5 Relationship to other standards
This is a CPQLTD-owned standard and is neither a translation of nor an automatic equivalent to any other body’s standard. Internal comparison maps may be used for quality purposes only, and any wording implying undocumented external recognition must be avoided.
