1 Purpose and basis
This document is available as CPQLTD internal policy within the institutional standards pack and is designed to align the CPQLTD ecosystem with ISO/IEC 17024 principles relevant to bodies certifying persons. Procedural and numeric provisions shown in this available edition are CPQLTD internal requirements. Their publication is not a claim of accreditation, certification or recognition by ISO/IEC or any other external body.
This statement clarifies CPQLTD’s regulatory positioning and the meaning of the word “Qualification” in its legal name, to avoid any implication that the CPQLTD-T credential is a qualification regulated by a government body. The correct positioning is that CPQLTD is a private professional certification body aligned with the principles of ISO/IEC 17024, not a regulator of formal qualifications.
2 Meaning of the term “Qualification”
The word “Qualification” appears within the company’s registered legal name (Coaching Professional Qualification Ltd) and refers to CPQLTD’s proprietary pathway for qualifying and professionally credentialing coaches. This naming does not mean that CPQLTD programmes or the CPQLTD-T credential are a “regulated qualification” within an official national framework unless that is expressly documented by a decision of a competent regulator.
3 CPQLTD’s regulatory pathway
CPQLTD operates as a private professional certification body, aligned with the principles of ISO/IEC 17024 for certifying persons.
The CPQLTD-T credential is a private professional credential owned by CPQLTD, not a qualification regulated by a government body.
Where a jurisdiction regulates the use of the term “qualification” through a qualifications regulator (as in England), CPQLTD programmes and the CPQLTD-T credential are not presented as a regulated qualification in that jurisdiction unless separate recognition is documented.
The educational certificate evidences an educational achievement, and the professional credential is an independent decision (consistent with CPQLTD-ORG §3).
4 Permitted and prohibited claims about regulatory status
Prohibited in describing the regulatory status:
✗ Describing CPQLTD programmes or the CPQLTD-T credential as a “regulated qualification” or “government-accredited” without a documented decision.
✗ Implying that the word “Qualification” in the company name denotes official regulatory recognition.
✗ Using “equivalent to a national qualification” or “officially recognised” without documented evidence and a defined scope.
Acceptable wording: “a private professional credential from CPQLTD aligned with the principles of ISO/IEC 17024”; “a private professional qualification programme at CPQLTD”, avoiding any implication of government regulation.
5 Jurisdiction and governing law
CPQLTD’s contractual relationship is governed by English law (England & Wales) as the governing law. Where CPQLTD programmes are delivered in other markets through an authorised agent or partner, the governing law of the contract remains English, and the practitioner and provider comply with the local rules in force at the place of service (consistent with CPQLTD-SCOPE §4).
